In this episode, i'm joined by Emmy Sue who shared how every man that she has ever loved used and took advantage of her. Emmy is a poet, survivor who spoke openly about growing up in a religious household, the childhood abuse that shaped her, and the toxic relationships and marriage that followed. Emmy shares the moment that changed things. Her niece and nephew told her she no longer seemed like herself. That started her journey back to herself through poetry, therapy, prayer and self-love. She also shares the warning signs she wishes she had seen sooner, and advice for anyone who suspects they're in an unhealthy relationship. Emmy shares how poetry became her healing tool, and why she writes love poems to herself, she shares why abuse can feel "normal" when you're in it, and why hindsight is clearer. She also shared red flags to watch for: whirlwind romance, losing yourself, and a partner who wants you to shrink, she spoke about letting go of guilt that was never hers and what she'd tell her five-year-old self If you or someone you know is in an abusive situation, support is available. Please reach out to a trusted person, a therapist, or a local domestic violence or abuse support hotline. If this story resonated with you, please like, comment, share and leave us a review. After 3 failed marriages & hitting rock bottom, Frank discovered a framework that works. Most people don’t have a decision system, and it’s costing them their health, relationships, and peace of mind. Frank Mesa - author, speaker, leadership strategist, and creator of the ERD framework - reveals the simple filter he built after surviving childhood trauma, repeated failed marriages, addiction, and a near-suicidal low point. What changed everything was not a major breakthrough or a perfect plan. It was a brutally honest self-assessment, a journal, and one idea: every choice either helps you evolve, revolve, or devolve. Once Frank started using ERD to evaluate the four major areas of life - health, finances, career, and relationships - he turned the pattern around and rebuilt from the ground up. You’ll discover how Frank used journaling to “keep receipts” on himself, spot destructive patterns, and make better decisions one moment at a time. He breaks down why people-pleasing can look like success in your career while quietly destroying your life, how to recognize emotional attacks and stop getting pulled into reactions that sabotage you & why the hardest person to lead is yourselfFrank also shares how he turned this framework into a book, an app, coaching, and workshops - and how he uses it now to stay disciplined, focused, and in better shape at 56 than he was decades ago. If you’ve been stuck in the same patterns and need a way to regain control, this conversation gives you a clear place to start. Hope you enjoyed it, if so please like, comment, share and subscribe. This episode is an interview with Jonathan Farley, who recounts his account of what happened to his 84 years old mother, Ena Farley. In 2023, Jonathan alleges that his brother and members of his family, alongside caregivers, police, and later care facilities, Kidnapped and removed his mother from her home against her wishes and isolated her from him and other relatives. He describes two incidents in which she was taken from her home, followed by a guardianship case and placement in assisted-living and nursing facilities. Throughout the conversation, Jonathan argues that his mother was denied contact with loved ones, improperly medicated, and mistreated while in care. He also alleges that her home, financial assets, and personal belongings were taken through an unlawful process after her death. Jonathan is currently seeking accountability from all the parties involved in this situation. He says he is pursuing legal and public attention for what he believes was a broader pattern of guardianship abuse and financial exploitation. In this episode, i spoke about why most African immigrants stay broke and how to fix it. Despite making a lot of money abroad (in America), a lot of immigrants remain broke because of poor money management. I am currently in my 40s and walking towards retirement, i have began to looking into ways to build long term sustainable wealth that will keep yielding even after i retire. I shared my experience with stock investing, mistakes i made & money i lost investing in penny stocks whose companies liquidated and i lost all my money. I soke about buying profitable stocks like AMD in 2018 where the stock price appreciated by over 4000% and i made so much profit! After recently learning about ETFs (exchange traded funds) and dabbling into it, i recommend it because of how diversified they are and more likely to recover in the event of economic downturn. Most immigrants are constantly seeking the next best avenue to earn more money in order to elevate their lifestyle but they also need to learn how to make money work for them by investing in the stock market. Based on my own experience i shared tips on how to start investing, start small (consistently set aside money each pay check) to put towards investment and opening a brokerage account e.g. Robinhood and start investing. I talked about how investing is a long game and is better suited for retirement because the compounding effect takes effect over a long period of time. Investing in dividend stocks or ETFs help you generate passive income at retirement which you can pass on to your children hence building generational wealth. Immigrants need to take advantage of the investment opportunities they have living in America (or abroad) so that they can retire rich and leave inheritances for the next generation. This episode is for anyone who is looking for how to build wealth, invest in the stock market, build a steady stream, of passive income and wants to take their financial destiny into their own hands. In this episode, i reflected on why i am still living in America after 15 years. I migrated to the United States from Nigeria in 2011 for grad school and decided to stay afterwards. My reason for remaining in the US has evolved over the years and taking out time to reflect on those reasons recently has really helped me. Being an immigrant in America today has become increasingly difficult since this current government/administration and sometimes it takes sitting down and reflecting on why you're still living here to give you a fresh perspective. I touched on 5 areas of my life that has been influenced/impacted by living in America these past 15 years. I spoke about how beautiful and how great America is as a country and i am so blessed to live here. I feel like i have been conditioned by the system/culture and fear that i might feel estranged whenever i go back to my home country to visit. I hope this episode resonates with my fellow immigrants or anyone who is curious about how life in America is.Thanks for watching, pls like, comment, share, subscribe. #livinginamerica #lifeabroad #africansabroad #immigrantjourney #japa #relocation Please Subscribe and watch our YouTube channel: @LifeAsWeSeeItPodcast

On this episode, I spoke about living in America: 7 things i wish i knew before moving to America 15 years ago. I relocated to the US from Nigeria in 2011 as an adult in my early 30s. Prior to my move, all i knew about living in America was was what i saw portrayed on TV, movies and American books/novels. When i moved here, I realized i didn't take a lot of things into consideration and I was taken aback when reality set in. I listed out some valuable lessons and things i wish i knew prior to moving to America. As an African immigrant, i had assumed it will be easy to connect with the African American folks because we're blacks but was I in for a rude shock?! :-). I listed out 7 things i wish i would have known or someone would have told me before moving to America which included things like dealing with loneliness, time moving fast, speaking up for yourself, etc... This episode is for anyone who is curious about living in America as an immigrant or someone who is planning to relocate to a different country abroad. The lessons/tips i share on this episode will be very helpful for you. Hope you enjoyed this episode? Pls Like, Share, Comment and Subscribe. We discussed the silent struggles of some immigrants sending money back to Africa to support their families. We talked about "black tax" and the sense of responsibility a lot of us feel to support our families back in Nigeria due to the communal lifestyle we grew up in where we feel a sense of duty to our own people. Dr Toyosi talked about how even though her mom and siblings do not expect financial support from her, she still supports them due to that sense of responsibility she has as the first child & first daughter in a Nigerian household where she is culturally expected to support. We talked about the root of entitlement some people demonstrate towards other people's resources, especially people living abroad. Toyosi shares how the family unit plays a huge role in how people act around money and feelings of entitlement. Some immigrants contribute to this problem by giving off the impression that things are rosy and easy for them abroad. We need to be careful of the message we send to people back home so that it doesn't encourage "request overload" from them. Toyosi shared how to put up and maintain strong boundaries when it comes to family members or relatives making asking incessant requests so that you don't get overwhelmed. This episode is for everyone who is the bread winner of their family and constantly weighed down with un-ending demands from family, friends or relative back home. Know that you're not alone.
